S+D METALS: Use of high-performance materials at the Olympic Winter Games
S+D METALS supports dedicated sports talents like the Austrian skeleton pilot Janine Flock, according to our motto "Supporting Your Success". As such, last week material from S+D METALS was successfully used at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing. The Olympic philosophy is based on the intention of supporting international peace, which should be expressed in fair and respectful games.
The team confirmed the excellent material conditions and the successful training. In four runs, Janine Flock raced headfirst down the bobsleigh track on her skeleton sled at top speeds of up to 124.9 km/h. In the end, a touch of luck and a blink of an eye was missing for the Olympic medal. With her last run, Janine Flock was able to improve from 11th to 10th place.
To be internationally competitive, the technique and the materials in the sled are crucial details. In August 2018, we welcomed Janine Flock, her coach Matthias Guggenberger and her technician Clemens Berauer to a strategy meeting in Düsseldorf. Since 2018, S+D METALS has been working together with Matthias Guggenberger, also the coach of Martins Dukurs, the most successful skeleton athlete of all time, to optimize the sleds using our special steels and to further development through innovation.
Janine Flock already successfully used material from S+D METALS when she won the World Championships in Whistler CAN and the European Championships in Innsbruck AUT in the 2018/19 season as well as the World Cup 2020.
S+D METALS will also support the talented team with material donations and advice for their next goal, the 2023 World Championships in St. Moritz. We wish the team continued fun, success and great moments in sports!
